U.S. Government Holds Approximately 29,000 BTC, Only About 15% of Initial Estimates—Report

Potential Impact on Bitcoin Reserves

It has been revealed that the U.S. government's Bitcoin holdings are significantly lower than initially expected. Following a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request by an independent cryptocurrency journalist, it was disclosed that the U.S. government, under the management of the Marshals Service, holds approximately 28,988 BTC. This amount is valued at about 510 billion yen at current market rates. The findings present a stark contrast to earlier projections. Entities such as Arkham Intelligence and Bitcoin Treasuries had estimated that the U.S. government held around 198,000 BTC across all agencies.
