Bybit Identifies 16 Blockchains Capable of Freezing User Funds, Sparking Debate on Decentralization

The Pros and Cons of Freezing Funds

On November 11, the security research team at major cryptocurrency exchange Bybit released a report on the asset freezing capabilities of blockchains. They identified 16 blockchain networks that technically have the ability to freeze or restrict user funds.

The team analyzed a total of 166 blockchains. Since most networks did not disclose such functionalities in their documentation, the team conducted a detailed code investigation. This was performed using customized AI agents combined with deep-level manual code analysis.

As a result of the investigation, it was found that currently 16 blockchains possess freezing capabilities, and an additional 19 block...
