業界最大手が舵を切った「両利きの経営」Binanceのトップが見据える既存金融との“協働”——リチャード・テン インタビュー

Achievements and Evaluation Since Becoming Binance CEO

Key Points of This Article

1. Advanced Compliance Framework
Binance has established a robust management organization, allocating over 25% of its workforce to compliance, practicing a dual strategy that balances sustainable growth and risk management. By strictly adhering to global regulations, Binance leads the industry and has gained high trust from institutional investors and individual clients.

2. Partnerships with Traditional Finance
Rather than competing with traditional finance, Binance aims to collaborate, advancing partnerships with major players like BlackRock. With a customer base of over 320 million, Binance leverages the world's largest liquidity pool to establish itself as an optimal partner capable of reducing transaction costs.

3. AI Utilization and Multi-Asset Expansion
Aiming to grow into an exchange used by 3 billion people, Binance is promoting operational efficiency through company-wide AI integration in areas like KYC and fraud detection. While maintaining top-tier security, Binance is transforming into a comprehensive financial platform covering cryptocurrencies, stocks, commodities, and more.

──How do you evaluate Binance's achievements since you became CEO in November 2023?

Richard Teng (hereafter, Teng): Binance is a very young organization, celebrating its 9th anniversary in July 2026, and our achievements are undoubtedly the result of the entire organization's and team's efforts.

One of our achievements is our "regulatory responsiveness." In the early stages of developing crypto-related products, regulations were unclear. Many countries worldwide did not regulate cryptocurrencies, so players at the time focused solely on growth, but the situation has changed significantly in recent years.

To focus on long-term and sustainable growth, it is crucial to emphasize compliance and risk management, which is why we have heavily invested in compliance, risk management, and corporate governance.

With clear regulations, institutional investors, companies, and general individual users will want to engage with and transact with regulated entities. These are crucial for driving mass adoption.

Currently, Binance has about 1,600 compliance officers. Given our global workforce of about 6,000, compliance officers make up over 25% of our total staff. We define "regulatory responsiveness" as a significant strength in differentiating ourselves from other companies in this field.

Binance continues to mature as an organization in terms of regulatory compliance. This has made Binance the most regulated entity, leading the industry by adhering to global regulatory standards from user onboarding to AML transaction monitoring, risk management, and even listings. We also continue to work very closely with stakeholders worldwide through collaboration with all regulatory authorities.

The second major achievement is establishing ourselves as a "multi-asset exchange." Currently, we have over 320 million users worldwide and continue to grow rapidly. On top of that, we have become a global multi-asset exchange offering not only cryptocurrencies but also stocks and commodities like precious metals, many of which are performing very well.

Looking at traditional markets, they typically operate 7 hours a day, 5 days a week, but we operate 24/7. This allows companies and individual users to manage their portfolios more effectively.

Moreover, with the emergence of AI agents and AI-driven trading methods, the future of finance will transition to a world where 24/7 trading becomes the norm. We support all these major developments, giving us an advantage and a strong position compared to other companies.

──Could you also tell us about the most challenging task you faced after assuming the role of CEO?

Teng: Navigating a rapidly evolving environment while steering the strategic direction of a fast-growing company toward "ambidextrous management"—balancing both sustainable growth and robust compliance—was a massive organizational transformation. As regulatory clarity improves, strengthening governance, risk management, and compliance has become a key focus in deepening our engagement with regulators and stakeholders. These efforts build trust and lay the foundation for long-term resilience and sustainable growth.
