[NEWS] Astar collaborates with Polygon to provide Ethereum Layer 2 "Astar zkEVM"

Stake Technologies, the developer of the Japanese public chain Astar Network, announced on the 13th that it will offer "Astar zkEVM (Astar zkEVM Powered by Polygon)" as a new blockchain.

Astar zkEVM will be developed as a layer 2 for Ethereum (ETH) by collaborating with Polygon Labs of Japan under a contract with Polygon (MATIC).

This announcement was announced at Token2049, Asia's largest Web 3.0 conference, after Astar Network predicted it would be a "Supernova".

Astar zkEVM will be developed using Polygon CDK (Chain Developer Kit) that utilizes zero-knowledge proofs. This will make it possible to process transactions on the network in a timely manner, which will likely solve the scalability problem.

The remaining Astar zkEVM will be compatible with various global Web 3.0 standards, and will provide solutions for mass adoption, such as gasless cryptocurrency with no transaction fees and account abstraction to improve usability.

According to the announcement, Astar zkEVM was conceived as a chain focusing on Japan's strengths in games, manga, and IP content.

Stake Technologies also plans to bring together the know-how it has gained from working with many domestic companies and in challenging fields in an effort to create advanced examples of Web 3.0 business from Japan.

By further leveraging collaboration and cooperation with top players in various business fields such as games, IP content, finance, and retail, Astar zkEVM aims to become the most trusted chain in the Japanese market.

Stake Technology CEO Sota Watanabe said in his announcement that the top goal of the collaboration with Polygon Lab centered on Astar zkEVM is to "become a growth driver for the Web 3.0 industry and the Japanese economy."

Based on the experience gained from the challenge, Astar zkEVM said that he will support the spread of Web 3.0 in Japanese companies while accelerating the social implementation of blockchain.
