[NEWS] Ethereum Developer Proposes Change to Maximum Staking Amount Raised to 2,048 ETH

Increased staking amount for validators

At the Ethereum Core Developers Meeting held on the 15th, a proposal was made to increase the amount of stakes held by validators.

This was proposed by Michael Neuder, a key developer at the Ethereum Foundation.

The minimum amount required to be a validator remains 32 ETH, but raising the maximum amount to 2,048 ETH would bring great benefits to the Ethereum network.

Increasing the number of validators will promote decentralization of the network, but it will also increase the burden on node management.

At present, Ethereum has 700,000 validators, and approximately 90,000 new validators are waiting to start operating. This is because the number of validators that can be added is limited.

According to Neuder, increasing the amount of staked ETH will reduce the number of validators, which is expected to improve the performance of the P2P layer in the network. He also said that it will contribute to the efficiency of withdrawal processing of staked ETH and block generation processing performance.

Neuder argued that "finalism within a single slot cannot be achieved unless the number of validators is limited. If this cannot be done, it will be difficult to carry out important upgrades in the future."

On the other hand, there are pros and cons to this proposal. First, there are concerns that limiting the number of validators may lead to the centralization of the Ethereum network.

Furthermore, there are concerns that the amount of ETH confiscated in "slashing," a penalty imposed for double approval of blocks, may increase, leading to the emergence of validators who unintentionally suffer large losses.

It is expected that discussions will proceed in the future while taking into account these various risks.
