[NEWS] LDP lawmaker Masaaki Taira becomes the first Diet member to start distributing SBT membership cards

Blockchain startup IndieSqueare announced on the 23rd that it will distribute SBTs (Soul Bound Tokens) as a supporter membership card for House of Representatives member Taira Masaaki, chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party web3PT (project team).

This initiative is being carried out in collaboration with Blockchain Strategic Policy Institute, Inc.

Taira is currently conducting a demonstration experiment to introduce eKYC, an online identity verification system, to the LDP membership process. Upon completing the party membership application, Taira will be given an SBT of his character, "Taira-kun." This is the first attempt by a Diet member to issue an SBT as a membership card to his supporters.

The SBT to be distributed this time will be a non-transferable NFT. It will be issued using "HAZAMA BASE," a Web 3.0 platform provided by IndieSqueare that allows anyone to easily issue NFTs and generate DAOs for free.

By acquiring the distributed SBT, it will be possible to participate in a limited event scheduled to be held in September. In addition, only 1,000 SBTs will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. No gas fees are required to issue SBTs, and they can be issued gas-less.

Applications for LDP membership using eKYC are limited to Tokyo residents. The LDP membership application process takes a minimum of one week, usually two weeks, from screening to issuing a party membership card.

Representative Taira has been working hard on digital reform-related bills, such as the establishment of the Digital Agency, from the planning stage to their enactment, and currently serves as the chair of AIPT in addition to web3PT.

In April of this year, he released the "NFT White Paper (Draft) - Japan's NFT Strategy in the Web 3.0 Era," which summarized tax reform, token screening and issuance, and NFT business. In his most recent remarks, he revealed his plan to give wallets to all Japanese citizens and distribute NFTs in preparation for the Osaka Expo.
