Crypto Garage, a subsidiary of Digital Garage that provides blockchain financial services, announced on the 1st that it will collaborate with Komainu, a major digital asset custodian invested in by the Nomura Group. The two companies will develop crypto asset (virtual currency) related services for Japanese institutional investors in the future.
The background to this is that interest in crypto assets is growing among corporate and institutional investors as the environment for crypto assets in Japan is undergoing reform, such as the promotion of Web 3.0 by the Japanese government and tax reforms in 2023.
As investment in the crypto asset sector by Japanese corporate and institutional investors is expected to increase in the future, Crypto Garage and Komainu will pool their expertise to develop advanced custody solutions tailored to the needs of crypto assets and a secure and reliable platform for managing digital assets.
The collaboration between industry-leading Crypto Garage and Komainu aims to build crypto asset related services for Japanese corporate and institutional investors. The two companies will combine their expertise to create synergies and develop a platform that promotes reliability, safety, and compliance for domestic corporate investors, including financial institutions, looking to enter the digital asset market.
Crypto Garage CEO Masato Okuma said, "We aim to provide innovative solutions in cooperation with Crypto Garage, which is launching a B2B custody business, Komainu, which provides custody services for institutional investors in Europe and the United States, and Nomura Holdings' digital asset subsidiary Laser Digital Holdings AG."
Komainu CEO Nicolas Bertrand also said, "Japan is an important region for the digital asset market. It is an important place for us, as we aim to become a globally recognized institutional-grade custodian, and we will solidify our position in Japan."
The two companies explained that the collaboration will "make a significant contribution to the Japanese cryptocurrency market for corporate and institutional investors."
Komainu provides regulatory-compliant custody services for multi-asset investors overseas. It has Komainu Limited, which is regulated by the Jersey Financial Services Commission (JFSC), and Komainu MEA FZE, which is regulated by VARA (Variable Asset Regulatory Authority) in Dubai.
Crypto Garage is registered with the Kanto Regional Financial Bureau as a cryptocurrency exchange business under Japan's Payment Services Act. It is expected that the platform developed using the technologies of both companies will lower the barrier to entry for Japanese institutional investors into Web 3.0.
