  2. In 2023, the thank-you gift for donations was an "unsellable NFT."
  3. In 2025, earn stamps at ATMs for use on the Tokyu Line
  4. By 2026, even shopping receipts had become connected.
  5. Wouldn't a standard stamp card suffice?
  6. Seven Bank was providing a "place for distribution," not the NFTs themselves.

A few years ago, NFTs were primarily associated with digital art fetching high prices. Although they no longer dominate the headlines as they once did, Seven Bank has, in fact, continued to distribute them. In October 2026, the bank launched a campaign where users could receive an NFT—specifically a digital version of a gojo-in (a commemorative "castle seal")—by topping up their electronic money at an ATM.

A review of past announcements reveals at least six NFT-related initiatives involving the Seven & i Group—ranging from charitable fundraising in 2023 and campaigns on the Tokyu railway line to promotions at convenience stores and events linked to basketball. These initiatives were spearheaded by entities including Seven Bank and Seven-Eleven Japan. Furthermore, Seven Bank has developed a service for corporate clients that leverages its nationwide network of ATMs to distribute NFTs, rather than facilitating their sale or trade. For what purpose are these NFTs—distributed at no cost—being used?

The "Echizen-Wakasa Digital Castle Stamp (Gojo-in) Tour," which began on October 13, 2026, allows users to receive an NFT-based "castle stamp" by topping up their transit-related e-money at Seven Bank ATMs in the participating region. A "castle stamp" (gojo-in) is a memento typically collected when visiting a castle; in this instance, the stamps are digital—collected on a smartphone rather than on paper.

A second, distinct stamp will be available at the "Echizen-Wakasa Castle Festival 2026," scheduled to be held in Fukui City on October 31 and November 1. The design of the stamp obtained at the ATM differs from the one provided at the festival venue. The strategy behind this initiative—developed by Seven Bank and its partners—is to use the ATM-based stamp as a gateway, encouraging users to learn about the event and subsequently visit the venue to collect an additional stamp.

The NFTs offered through this program are intended for collection as a record of participation, rather than for trading or sale. When did Seven Bank begin utilizing NFTs in this manner?
