Ethereum's next upgrade, Dencun, was successfully implemented on the final testnet, Holesky, on the 7th.
The Dencun upgrade is being implemented in stages on testnets before being implemented on the mainnet. It was implemented on the testnet Goerli on the 17th of last month, and on the second testnet Sepolia on the 30th of the same month.
Parithosh Jayanthi, an engineer at the Ethereum Foundation, said on X (formerly Twitter) that "BLOBs are running smoothly. Next is the mainnet."
With the successful implementation on Holesky, the Ethereum community will decide on the implementation date on the mainnet in the future. The implementation date is scheduled to be discussed at the Ethereum Core Developers' meeting on the 8th. At present, it is expected to be implemented in early to mid-March.
Denkung is expected to reduce fees, etc.
Denkung is a combination of upgrades from Cancun and Deneb. Cancun is an upgrade to the execution layer, while Deneb is an upgrade to the consensus layer.
Proto-danksharding is attracting particular attention in Denkung. Proto-danksharding introduces a mechanism called "blob," which is expected to significantly reduce gas fees (transaction fees) and improve scalability. This is expected to significantly reduce gas fees in Layer 2.
