[NEWS] Self-proclaimed nation Liberland appoints Tron founder Sun as prime minister

Unrecognized nation that uses Bitcoin as legal tender

Liberland, which claims to be a self-declared state despite not being recognized globally, elected Tron founder Justin Sun as acting prime minister in a parliamentary election on the 8th. Sun will serve as acting prime minister.

Liberland was founded in 2015 in an uninhabited area of the Danube River on the border between Serbia and Croatia, calling itself an independent state. 99% of its reserves are held in Bitcoin (BTC).

Sun will take over as acting prime minister from Czech liberal politician and activist Vit Jedlicka, who established Liberland as a new independent state.

After the election results were announced, Sun said, "My vision is to build on the foundations of liberal principles that form the essence of our nation."

Along with Sun, prominent figures from the Web 3.0 industry, such as Indian Web 3.0 entrepreneur Evan Luthra, were elected to parliament to promote the country's blockchain policy.

Liberland's founding principles are based on the ideals of liberal thinkers such as Ayn Rand. They want to impose no taxes on citizens, minimize government power, and build a laissez-faire economy based on crypto assets (virtual currencies).

Liberland's seven members, representing about 1,000 citizens, established a blockchain-based voting system on the 6th of this month to elect Sun.

Meanwhile, Liberland is not a nation recognized by UN member states. In addition, neighboring countries Croatia and Serbia have said that Jedlička's claims are unfounded.

Sun's movements attract attention

This is not the first time Sun has been involved in politics. He served as the World Trade Organization representative for the Caribbean island nation of Grenada from 2021 to 2023.

Through his appointment as acting prime minister, Sun's movements may attract more attention. In particular, interest is expected to grow as this large-scale social experiment will test the success of a self-declared nation of around 1,000 people that imposes no taxes and keeps the power of government agencies to a minimum.
