[NEWS] OpenAI to announce AI agent "Operator" soon?

"Operator" is expected to be offered to developers in its initial phase.

OpenAI's new tool, "Operator," is expected to be released as early as January 2025. It is designed to autonomously perform tasks on a computer on behalf of users, such as generating code and booking travel arrangements.

In its initial phase, "Operator" will be offered as a research preview for developers and will be accessible through OpenAI's API.

The so-called "AI agent" domain, where AI autonomously interacts with external tools to handle complex tasks, represents a natural evolution of generative AI, which produces outputs based on user prompts.

Google's AI agent, "Jarvis," which autonomously handles programming tasks, also garners attention. It includes features such as creating implementation plans based on user-given tasks, generating and modifying code, and fixing bugs. The industry is watching closely to see how OpenAI's new tool differentiates itself in this competitive space.

The AI Agent Boom Spreading to the Web3.0 Domain

The trend of AI agents has also reached the Web3.0 domain since the latter half of last year. It was sparked by AI researcher Andy Airey’s autonomous AI chatbot, "Truth Terminal," which received a $50,000 Bitcoin donation from Marc Andreessen of major VC firm a16z (Andreessen Horowitz).

According to data from daos.fun, by late 2024, an AI agent called "Eliza" autonomously managed on-chain liquidity pools and reportedly achieved returns exceeding 60% annually. MarketsandMarkets' report forecasts that the AI agent market will grow from $5.1 billion in 2024 to $47.1 billion by 2030.

In Q4 2024, the market capitalization of AI agent tokens steadily rose, surpassing $15 billion by the end of the year. As of the 16th, it appears stable at around $10 billion. However, with the inauguration of the Trump administration, capital inflows into this domain could increase due to heightened expectations.
