An Exclusive Learning Opportunity for Students

On the chilly day of November 4th, as winter deepened, Chiba Institute of Technology's Tsudanuma campus hosted the 'Binance Academy Special Class,' a venue for learning accurate information about cryptocurrencies and Web3.0.

Binance Academy, not limited to Binance users, functions as an educational content platform accessible to anyone for free. It offers easy-to-understand content ranging from the basics to advanced applications of blockchain and cryptocurrencies, and is used by tens of millions of people worldwide. The initiative is supported by a wide range of users, from beginners to intermediates.

This time, the Binance Japan team held a special lecture format of Binance Academy. The event was exclusively for students, covering the origins and overview of cryptocurrencies, and the worldview brought about by Web3.0.

Iolite also participated as a media partner in this event and will report on the day's proceedings.

Welcome to Web3: A Lecture by Mr. Tsuyoshi Chino, Representative of Binance Japan

In a special lecture, Mr. Tsuyoshi Chino, the representative of Binance Japan, served as the speaker. After joining the Tokyo Stock Exchange, Mr. Chino built a career in finance and joined the cryptocurrency exchange Kraken in 2018. He became the head of its Japanese operations in 2020, and since July 2022, has been the representative of Binance Japan. Known for his extensive knowledge in both finance and cryptocurrencies, he frequently speaks at various events.

In this session, Mr. Chino educated the students about the basics of Web3.0, cryptocurrencies, Bitcoin, and the role of exchanges.

For students unfamiliar with Web3.0, the evolution of the concept from its inception to the present would be of interest. Mr. Chino explained the characteristics of the one-way communication of Web1.0 and the interactive flow of information in Web2.0, describing Web3.0 as a user-centric worldview where individuals manage their own data.

He also touched on the decentralization and transparency of blockchain, the mechanics of P2P transactions, and the significance of digital identity, noting that 'an internet society where the user plays the leading role is emerging' was particularly memorable.

The Origins and Social Significance of Cryptocurrencies

In the latter part of the lecture, the origins and the fundamental value of cryptocurrencies were explored in depth. Specifically, the focus was on Bitcoin, which emerged in 2009 during the aftermath of the financial crisis. It was explained that Bitcoin was conceived as a new monetary system without a central authority, in response to concerns about governments and central banks having the power to issue currency at will.

Mr. Chino emphasized that both fiat currencies and Bitcoin are underpinned by 'trust.' He unraveled the history of money, illustrating that the power of belief is fundamental to maintaining value.

Furthermore, he discussed Bitcoin's structural features, such as its inflation-curbing issuance limit of 21 million coins and the reliability of its blockchain technology, which is extremely difficult to tamper with. He also carefully addressed common misconceptions about its anonymity and transparency, as well as the mistaken association with criminal use.

Web3.0, Society, and the Future

In the final part of the lecture, the discussion turned to CBDCs (Central Bank Digital Currencies), NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens), and DeFi (Decentralized Finance), which are currently under consideration in various countries. The lecturer highlighted the practical applications of NFTs, noting that beyond digital art and collections, there are 'usable NFTs' like hotel vouchers and wine becoming increasingly common, demonstrating the growing connection between Web3.0 technologies and real-world applications.

Mr. Chino from Binance Japan touched on the collaboration with PayPay, describing it as an effort to bridge traditional finance and the blockchain world. He announced that Binance Japan plans to implement Bitcoin transactions through PayPay Money within the year, suggesting that 'an era where Web3.0 and everyday life naturally merge is upon us.'

At the conclusion of the lecture, he emphasized that 'having the right knowledge is the first step to successfully engaging with technology.' The students who experienced Binance Academy's initiatives likely had a valuable time feeling the shape of next-generation finance and the internet.

Reviewing Learned Knowledge with a 'Real-Time Quiz'

Following the lecture, a quiz competition was held where top scorers could win Binance branded merchandise, 'Binance Swag'. The quiz featured questions based on the lecture content delivered by Mr. Chino, as well as topics specifically tailored for the students of Chiba Institute of Technology, creating a lively atmosphere at the venue.

A Lively Q&A Session with Sharp Questions

Following a quiz, a Q&A session took place where Mr. Chino responded to numerous questions from the students.

Here, we highlight some of the most impressive discussions.

Q1. What possibilities does the collaboration with PayPay offer?

A. Although I can't disclose specifics yet, there is significant potential in initiatives related to stablecoins. Using trust-based stablecoins could surpass the current PayPay transaction limit of 'up to 1 million yen per transaction,' enabling high-value payments and asset transactions in the future.

Q2. Any plans for handling USDC at Binance Japan?

A. We plan to handle it, and I believe we can announce it in the not-too-distant future. A separate license is required for cryptocurrencies, so we will announce it as soon as formal approval is obtained.

Q3. Why is the spread (price difference between buying and selling) high at exchanges?

A. In Japan, there are two types of trading services: 'exchanges' and 'brokers.' 'Exchanges' tend to have a higher barrier for beginners. Therefore, there is a demand for 'brokers' as they allow easier transactions. It's unclear what an appropriate spread would be, but from a personal viewpoint, considering the current situation, Japanese users tend not to switch from the exchange where they first opened an account, and many users are not very concerned about the spread. Binance Japan aims to keep the spread as narrow as possible.

Q4. Why have major international exchanges like Kraken and Coinbase withdrawn from the Japanese market?

A. The primary reason is that they are not profitable. Japanese investors tend to stick with the first exchange they start using, and even with advertising and campaigns, it's hard to attract new users. Binance can leverage its already established technology and systems abroad, which gives it a competitive advantage in optimizing for the Japanese market at a lower cost.

Q5. Can a partnership with PayPay allow for earning interest (rewards) on stored cryptocurrencies?

A. That is exactly the direction we are aiming for. PayPay already has investment elements like point management, and collaborating with Binance could provide more diverse options for operations and staking. Additionally, we want to incorporate yield products and DeFi-like mechanisms to effectively utilize idle assets.

A Valuable Learning Opportunity for Students

The event concluded with a networking session among students. Many of the attendees had never been exposed to cryptocurrencies or Web3.0, making it a valuable learning experience.

The participants, primarily students from Chiba Institute of Technology, numbered over 50, with a notable presence of freshmen and sophomores, indicating a high level of interest in Web3.0 considering their future careers.

This 'Binance Academy Outreach Class' was part of a series to be held in seven cities nationwide from October 2025 to May 2026.

The initiative is expected to continue delivering accurate knowledge about Web3.0 to the young generation who will lead society in the future, and it is hoped that it will foster the creation of next-generation leaders who will drive the industry.
