Anthropic Announces Progress in Drug Discovery Research with Six Organizations and Acquisition of Biotech Firm Mithril Medicine

Disclosure of Progress in Partnerships with Six Organizations and In-House Drug Discovery

On the 27th, U.S. AI development company Anthropic announced progress in drug discovery research utilizing its AI model 'Claude'. Over the past few months, the company has advanced research collaborations with six organizations for new drug development and has also embarked on its own drug discovery initiatives.

The partners include six organizations: BigHat Biosciences, Bristol Myers Squibb, Divergence Labs, Enveda, Generate Biomedicines, and The Column Group. They are leveraging Claude at various stages of development, from molecular design to manufacturing, regulatory documentation, and clinical trial planning.

For instance, at Enveda, Claude identified all 11 issues found by human reviewers in a 1,061-page manufacturing document verification, as well as seven additional overlooked issues, reducing review time by 89%.

Furthermore, Anthropic revealed the acquisition of Mithril Medicine, a one-person company developing treatments for rare muscular dystrophy. Cody Tranberger, the founder of Mithril Medicine, managed contracts and experiments with 11 external institutions using Claude, advancing a drug candidate to promising results in mice in less than 18 months. Human clinical trials could begin as early as late 2028.

Most of the research is currently at the preclinical stage, and there are plans to expand Claude's role into clinical trials in the future.

Prospectus Released the Day Before, Life Sciences as a Growth Strategy

On the 26th, Anthropic filed a registration statement 'Form S-1' with the SEC (U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission) for its IPO (Initial Public Offering) and released its prospectus. The company aims to list on the Nasdaq Global Select Market under the ticker symbol 'ANT.' The number of shares to be offered and the price range have not yet been determined.

The prospectus explains that Claude is being used for drug discovery by client companies, partners in the biotechnology sector, and the company's own researchers. Healthcare and life sciences are highlighted as one of the new markets in its growth strategy.

The announcement regarding its own drug discovery is seen as an attempt by Anthropic, ahead of its listing, to demonstrate the expansion of its business domains.

In terms of performance, revenue for the January to June 2026 period was approximately $16.3 billion, a significant increase from approximately $1.2 billion in the same period the previous year. However, the net loss amounted to about $80.7 billion, largely due to fluctuations in the fair value of convertible bonds and other factors.
