[NEWS] OpenSea announces new platform "OS2" and airdrop of its own token, SEA

New platform and airdrop period attracting attention

NFT marketplace OpenSea released the beta version of its new platform "OS2" on the 13th. It also revealed plans to issue its own token "SEA" and conduct an airdrop.

OS2 will be a service aimed at collectors and professional traders, and will enable cross-chain purchases via multiple blockchains and consolidate the marketplace. It will support 14 types of blockchains, including Ethereum, Soneium, and Berachain.

In addition, the platform will have a marketplace fee of 0.5% and a swap fee of 0% at launch.

The SEA, which will be issued as its own token, is expected to be used as a utility token in OS2. The timing of the airdrop has not been decided, and the company only stated that it will "take appropriate action by utilizing what it has learned in this field."

The airdrop will be targeted at users in several countries, including the United States, and stated that "not only recent activity but also past usage of OpenSea will be an important factor."

A potential threat to Blur

OpenSea grew rapidly in line with the NFT boom, becoming the world's top NFT marketplace. However, as the boom began to wane, trading volume dropped, and since then, with the rise of the latecomer Blur, OpenSea has been content to be the second-largest NFT marketplace.

However, the release of OS2 may once again change the picture. According to DappRadar, at the time of writing, OpenSea is ranked first in 24-hour trading volume, beating Blur. It is also approaching Blur in monthly trading volume, and it is possible that OpenSea will return to the top with the release of OS2 and the SEA airdrop.
