On the 21st, US President Trump announced a private investment plan of up to $500 billion (approximately 78 trillion yen) to build AI infrastructure in the US, with SoftBank Group, OpenAI, and others.
According to SoftBank Group's announcement, the initiative will be carried out by a joint venture called the Stargate Project, which will be run by SoftBank Group, OpenAI, and Oracle. SoftBank Group and OpenAI will serve as lead partners, with SoftBank Group in charge of financial management and OpenAI in charge of operations. SoftBank Group's Masayoshi Son will serve as chairman.
In addition to the three companies, MGX will also be listed as an initial investor. The plan is to invest $100 billion (approximately 155 billion yen) initially, and then invest up to $500 billion over the next five years.
Arm, Microsoft, NVIDIA, Oracle, and OpenAI will participate as early technology partners, and construction of the AI infrastructure has already begun in Texas. The company said it is considering potential sites across the U.S. to build the campus and is finalizing contracts.
In his announcement, President Trump said, "This will be the largest AI infrastructure project in history." He said the project will create approximately 100,000 jobs in the U.S. and bring economic benefits to the world, and "establish America's leadership in the AI field."
On his first day in office, President Trump repealed the executive order on AI-related regulations issued by former President Biden in 2023. The order mainly included monitoring risks posed by AI, but it is believed that the aim of relaxing regulations is to promote the growth of the AI field in the U.S.
