[NEWS] Sony unveils Soneium mainnet and also releases cryptocurrency trading service

Sonium mainnet launched

On the 14th, Sony announced that it has released the mainnet of Soneium, an Ethereum Layer 2 blockchain, through Sony Block Solutions Labs, a blockchain-related company under the Sony Group.

Sony Block Solutions Labs announced the development of Soneium in August last year. It then released the testnet Soneium Minato. According to the announcement, in addition to 32 projects that were selected from over 1,700 applications in the incubation program Soneium Spark, which began last September, there are many apps created by creators.

During the testnet stage, entertainment-related and financial apps such as games, NFTs, and social apps were launched, and it appears that the number of accounts has exceeded 14 million and the number of transactions has exceeded 47 million.

Cryptocurrency trading services and NFT services also launched in earnest

In addition to the release of Soneium's mainnet, Sony also announced the release of the cryptocurrency trading service "S.BLOX" and the "Fan Marketing Platform" using NFTs. By providing a comprehensive Web 3.0 solution with these three services, Sony aims to support creators in expanding their creativity and strengthening their engagement with fan communities.

S.BLOX was born in July last year when Quetta Web, a subsidiary of the Sony Group, acquired WhaleFin, a cryptocurrency trading service operated by Amber Japan. It was announced that WhaleFin's service would be released as a major renewal. S.BLOX was also released on the 14th, and the company plans to provide an easy-to-use service by redesigning the UI screen, releasing a mobile app in the future, and expanding the number of supported currencies.

In addition, Sony explained that the Fan Marketing Platform will be released sequentially from February onwards through Sony Group's SNFT. As a platform provided to companies that implement NFT measures, it will provide one-stop support from the implementation to analysis of fan engagement measures using NFTs.

Focus on utilizing Web 3.0 in the entertainment industry

Sony is focusing on use in the entertainment field when providing Web 3.0-related services.

As the use of creators becomes more diverse, Sony believes that Web 3.0 content will become more interactive, and the points of contact between fans and creators will increase. Based on this, the company says it aims to comprehensively handle Web 3.0 solutions and provide use cases that will benefit creators and fans.
