株式会社サンリオが見据えるエンターテイメント産業の未来とは?

Beyond Traditional IP Business

──First, could you tell us about the Web3.0 initiatives Sanrio is involved in?

Kosuke Hamasaki (hereafter, Hamasaki): Currently, Sanrio is focusing on three main projects in the digital domain, particularly utilizing Web3.0 and related technologies to create new entertainment experiences and support creators. Specifically, these include XR initiatives, UGX support projects, and fan community ventures. UGX refers to a concept that encompasses User Generated Content (UGC) and extends to user-led IPs, products, and businesses.

──Could you elaborate on these initiatives?

Hamasaki: Starting with our XR initiatives, we are advancing our efforts in virtual reality (VR) spaces. A notable example is the "Sanrio Virtual Festival" held on VRChat, one of the world's largest social VR platforms.

While VR technology and the metaverse have not yet become widely popular, we see significant potential in these new technologies to offer unprecedented user experiences. Specifically, we are envisioning a VR theme park centered around IP, recreating and expanding the world of Sanrio Puroland into VR spaces. This virtual space aims to provide a platform for diverse artists and creators to host live events and interact with fans, creating new opportunities for activities and fan engagement.

Moreover, we aim to emphasize interactivity, not just content delivery. With constant events and VTuber broadcasts, we are creating an entertainment space that offers new discoveries with each visit, ensuring it remains engaging over time.
