The Main Arena for Job Hunting and Career Changes Shifts to Social Media: Short Videos Save Companies

Traditionally, job hunting meant visiting your school's career office, attending company information sessions, or, in some cases, searching on job portals. For those changing careers, public employment services might be added to the mix. Many companies used to invest heavily in these traditional recruitment activities. However, a staggering 40% of the so-called Generation Z now includes social media as one of their sources for gathering information, according to a survey by Yotsuba Production Co., Ltd. This percentage represents a significant portion of all job seekers, but when narrowed down to those actively job hunting or changing careers, the use of social media jumps to 80%.
It is safe to say that information gathering through social media is becoming more active among those seeking jobs or changing careers. For the younger generation, this might seem like stating the obvious. Over 90% of Generation Z owns a social media account, and for recruiters, focusing on social media can be more effective than paying for media advertisements. It is an era where companies can better promote themselves on social media.
Looking at the top five social media platforms used by Generation Z reveals some interesting trends: '1st Instagram', '2nd TikTok', '3rd YouTube', '4th X', '5th BeReal'. All of these platforms emphasize short video broadcasting capabilities.
Companies that have realized this are already starting to produce short videos for recruitment. Interestingly, videos from small and medium-sized enterprises, which previously might not have garnered much attention, tend to go viral. In fact, there are some surprising creative techniques involved in these recruitment-oriented short videos that would astonish traditional video editors. Here, we will explain the hidden techniques in creating recruitment short videos and why they are effective in attracting candidates.
Benefits of Launching Recruitment Videos
MERIT 1: Reduction of Recruitment Mismatches
Short videos enable the transmission of employees' real personalities and atmospheres, allowing job seekers to understand the 'company culture' and 'atmosphere'.
MERIT 2: Reduction in Recruitment Costs
While outsourcing can cost nearly one million yen, strategies like DM communication and switching to in-house web guidance can gradually reduce costs. This is considered an investment in ongoing recruitment activities.
MERIT 3: Increased Visibility
Operating on social media not only reaches job seekers but also connects with business partners and customers. Increasing visibility among the upcoming main force, Generation Z, is effective even for B2B companies.
