The Success of Facebook Began with Recognizing Dissatisfaction
Meta Platforms, Inc. (formerly Facebook, Inc.), founded by Mark Zuckerberg during his time at Harvard University, is well-known for its origins and the subsequent dropout of its founder to focus on the burgeoning company. While his tumultuous college days and the path to success are often scandalized in various narratives, less is reported in Japan about Zuckerberg's own discussions on the nuances of student entrepreneurship.
Zuckerberg, who launched Facebook with his peers and later dropped out of Harvard, has shared insights into student entrepreneurship at various interviews and lectures. Here, we will focus on five key strategies that Zuckerberg used, which he has articulated over the years.
Originally, Facebook was provided as a platform for students at Harvard and other universities to interact. Zuckerberg developed Facebook as a solution to the problems and concerns of students, continually refining the product from this perspective. As a student, he began by identifying problems in areas he understood and was passionate about.
At a prestigious university like Harvard, one's future might seem guaranteed upon admission. However, Zuckerberg fundamentally recognized that students were starved for relationships and saw the value in connecting students at Harvard who found it difficult to build relationships.
