Cryptocurrency seized from Hamas

On the 27th, the US Department of Justice announced that it had seized crypto assets (virtual currencies) from the Islamic organization Hamas. It said it had thwarted a terrorist financing plot.

Approximately $201,400 (approximately ¥30.4 million) worth of stablecoins such as USDT stored in wallets and accounts was seized. Hamas' virtual currency address was allegedly used to launder more than $1.5 million (approximately ¥230 million) since October 2024.

USDT is a US dollar-denominated stablecoin issued by Tether, Inc., and is the leading stablecoin by market capitalization.
