Ethereum Underperforms Bitcoin in 85% of Time Periods

Comparing Ethereum and Bitcoin

On April 8, cryptocurrency analyst James Check released data showing that Ethereum (ETH) has underperformed Bitcoin (BTC) on 85% of trading days to date.

The chart below, shared by Check, shows the ETH/BTC ratio. The green-shaded areas—such as the early years following Ethereum’s launch (2015–2017) and around January 2020—highlight the rare periods when Ethereum outperformed Bitcoin.

James Check is a well-regarded figure in the crypto space, having previously served as Lead Analyst at Glassnode, a leading on-chain analytics firm. Glassnode is known for its in-depth blockchain data analysis, widely used by investors and institutions.
