First adoption in Latin America

Panama City's city council passed a proposal this week to allow citizens to pay for public services with cryptocurrencies. The decision, announced by Mayor Mayor Mizrachi on X on the 16th, makes Panama City the first public government institution in Latin America to accept cryptocurrencies as payment.

Under the new system, citizens will be able to pay taxes, fines, permit fees and other fees with four different cryptocurrencies: Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), USD Coin (USDC) and Tether (USDT). The timing of the launch and support for other altcoins have not been disclosed, but the crypto-friendly atmosphere across Panama...
