Quantum Computer vs Bitcoin: Decryption Contest for 1 BTC

"QDay Prize" held

The Bitcoin (BTC) network is protected by elliptic curve cryptography (ECC), but new vulnerabilities have emerged due to the development of quantum computers. Founded in 2024, quantum research company Project 11 launched the QDay Prize contest on the 17th, awarding 1 BTC (approximately 12 million yen) to any team that successfully cracks Bitcoin's simplified encryption using a quantum computer. The contest will run until April 6, 2026, and is for ECC keys of 1 to 25 bits.
