Internet-native payment methods

Coinbase's development team announced on the 7th a new open source payment protocol, "x402," that implements the HTTP 402 "Payment Required" status code, which has been in the blueprint of the Internet for decades but has not been utilized. The protocol enables a practical payment layer where a server can request a payment and a client (human or AI agent) can respond with a stable coin such as USDC.

The main goal of x402 is to remove the barriers for AI agents to autonomously access external APIs and contextual lookup protocols...
