What's the Impact on Bitcoin Encryption? Google Research Drastically Reduces Necessary Qubits for Decryption

What's the Impact on Bitcoin Encryption?

On the 21st, Google's quantum computer research team announced a new method that significantly reduces the number of quantum bits (qubits) required to decrypt RSA encryption. According to researcher Craig Gidney, it is now possible to decrypt a 2048-bit RSA key with fewer than one million qubits within a week. (It should be noted that this is not yet feasible with current hardware.) This achievement represents a 20-fold reduction from the team's 2019 estimates, which previously required 20 million qubits. The reduction in the number of qubits needed is primarily due to improvements in algorithms and advancements in error correction techniques.
