Ripple and the SEC File Joint Application Aimed at Settling Prolonged Lawsuit

Accelerating Towards Resolution?

On June 12, Ripple and the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) submitted a joint application to the Federal District Court in Manhattan. The application seeks the release of funds and the lifting of an injunction concerning $125 million held in escrow as civil penalties.

The proposed distribution plan involves paying $50 million to the SEC and returning the remaining funds to Ripple. This application is part of a comprehensive settlement effort aimed at ending ongoing appeals and avoiding additional legal proceedings between the parties.

The application highlights the settlement agreement, a shift in the SEC's cryptocurrency policy, and the intention to avoid further litigation as 'exceptional circumstances.'
