France Proposes Bill to Utilize Excess Nuclear Power for Bitcoin Mining

Experimenting with Bitcoin Mining Using Surplus Nuclear Power

On July 11, members of the French National Assembly introduced a bill for a five-year trial operation of Bitcoin (BTC) mining utilizing surplus nuclear power. According to data from the Digital Asset Development Association (ADAN), this could generate annual revenues of $100 to $150 million by harnessing 1 gigawatt of surplus power. The bill permits power companies to redirect surplus electricity, which would otherwise be wasted during periods of low demand, to cryptocurrency mining operations. Last month, the French Parliament considered the introduction of Bitcoin mining as a solution to the destabilization of the power grid, exacerbated by the expansion of renewable energy sources such as wind and solar power.
