U.S. House Defense Budget Bill Adds Provision to Ban CBDC Issuance

On the 21st, the U.S. House announced the addition of a provision to ban the issuance of Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDCs) in the revised 2025 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which sets defense policies. This measure is expected to block the Federal Reserve Board (FRB) from issuing personal central bank digital currencies. The newly added provision is named the 'Anti-CBDC Surveillance State Bill,' and contains the same content as a standalone bill previously proposed by Representative Tom Emmer, a proponent of cryptocurrencies. The bill was narrowly passed in the House earlier this summer with a vote of 219 to 210, and has now been incorporated into the NDAA, a must-pass bill.
