U.S. CFTC Adopts Nasdaq's Surveillance Technology to Enhance Oversight of Cryptocurrency Markets

Enabling Cross-Market Surveillance

The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) announced on the 27th that it is adopting Nasdaq's surveillance technology to enhance monitoring of both cryptocurrency assets and traditional markets.

This initiative is part of a broader effort to modernize the CFTC, as articulated by Acting Chair Caroline Pham in March. Pham explained:

'With Nasdaq Market Surveillance, the CFTC will for the first time have access to automated alerts and cross-market analysis capabilities. These will benefit various divisions within the CFTC, enabling more effective protection of the markets from fraud, manipulation, and misconduct...'
