Coinbase Calls for Sanctions Over SEC Document Destruction in Court

Document Destruction Under Former SEC Chairman Gensler

Paul Grewal, Chief Legal Officer at the U.S. cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase, criticized the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) under the Biden administration for destroying text messages from former SEC Chairman Gensler.

Grewal stated that an SEC audit report from last week revealed that relevant documents from October 2022 to September 2023 had been destroyed. He noted, 'Despite our request years ago for information on all communications within the SEC regarding cryptocurrency regulation and legal enforcement decisions, it has come to light that documents under Chairman Gensler's tenure were destroyed.'
