Florida Proposes Bill Allowing Up to 10% Investment in Bitcoin for Pension Funds

During the 2026 legislative session, the Florida legislature introduced a bill that would allow investments in digital assets, including Bitcoin (BTC), using the state's public funds. House Bill 183 enables the state's Chief Financial Officer to invest up to 10% of designated public funds, such as the General Revenue Fund and the Budget Stabilization Fund, in cryptocurrencies and related ETFs. If passed, the bill would also allow the State Administration Commission to invest up to 10% of the Florida Retirement System Trust Fund in digital assets. Digital assets are defined to include Bitcoin, tokenized securities, and NFTs, with stringent custody and management requirements set in place.
