Signing the Stopgap Budget Bill

On the 13th, Japan time, U.S. President Donald Trump signed a stopgap budget bill that ended the federal government shutdown, as reported by CNBC and others. The House passed the bill on the same evening with a vote of 222 to 209, and with the President's signature, the longest shutdown in U.S. history, lasting 43 days, finally concluded. Government agencies are funded until January 30th. Before signing, President Trump criticized in the Oval Office, stating, 'The Democrats tried to blackmail the country,' and emphasized, 'The Republicans did not want the shutdown.' He mentioned that over a million federal employees were furloughed and government services were impacted, adding, 'Such events must never happen again...'
