First U.S. State to Purchase Bitcoin

Lee Bratcher, President of the Texas Blockchain Council, announced on November 26 that Texas had purchased Bitcoin (BTC) on November 20 at a cost basis of approximately $87,000, making it the first U.S. state to buy Bitcoin. Mr. Bratcher later clarified that the actual purchase was $5 million (780 million yen) worth, with a total of $10 million allocated from general funds, though not all funds have been distributed yet. The state treasury plans to self-custody the Bitcoin once the bidding process is complete, but for now, the initial purchase is being made through BlackRock's IBIT ETF.
