Massive Shutdown of Cryptocurrency Mining Facilities in China Following Official Warning

400,000 Mining Machines Reportedly Halted

The former chairman of major mining machine manufacturer Canaan, Jianping Kong, posted on December 14th that Bitcoin (BTC) mining facilities in Xinjiang are being shut down consecutively.

On the following day, Mr. Kong noted that the overall Bitcoin network hash rate had dropped by 100 EH/s (about 8%) from the previous day. Based on an average computing power of 250 terahashes per second per machine, he estimated that at least 400,000 mining machines had been halted.
