SEC Chairman Warns, 'Cryptocurrencies Could Become the Most Powerful Financial Surveillance System in History'

Excessive Regulation Poses a Risk to Privacy Invasion

On the 15th, SEC Chairman Paul Atkins spoke at the 'Financial Surveillance and Privacy Roundtable' hosted by the SEC's cryptocurrency task force. Mr. Atkins pointed out that public blockchains are extremely effective in linking transactions and senders. However, he warned that if regulators engage in excessive surveillance, cryptocurrencies could become 'the most powerful financial surveillance architecture ever invented.'
