2025 Report on Thefts and Hacking Incidents

Blockchain analytics firm Chainalysis has released its 2025 report on cryptocurrency theft and hacking. The total amount stolen in cryptocurrency from January to early December this year has exceeded $3.41 billion (approximately ¥530 billion), marking an increase from $3.38 billion in 2024. As the adoption and valuation of cryptocurrencies continue to rise, so too does the scale of related thefts. This year, the top three hacking incidents accounted for 69% of the total losses. Notably, a February hack on the cryptocurrency exchange Bybit resulted in losses of around $1.5 billion (approximately ¥230 billion).
