U.S. Department of Justice Sells Seized Bitcoins, Potentially Violating Trump Executive Order, Reports Say

Bitcoin Magazine reported on December 5 that the U.S. Marshals Service (USMS), under the directive of the U.S. Department of Justice, might have sold bitcoins seized in a plea bargain from the developer of Samurai Wallet on November 3, 2025.

This sale could potentially violate Executive Order 14233 issued by President Trump, which mandates that bitcoins acquired through criminal or civil asset forfeiture procedures be held as part of the U.S. Strategic Bitcoin Reserve (SBR).
