U.S. Senate to Discuss Cryptocurrency Market Structure Bill by January 15

Multiple U.S. media outlets reported on the 7th that Tim Scott, Chairman of the Senate Banking Committee, has informed members that the amendment discussions for the Cryptocurrency Market Structure Bill will be conducted by January 15. The plan is to proceed with the discussions regardless of whether there is bipartisan support, although as of the 7th, there may not be enough votes gathered. Both the Democratic and Republican parties held discussions about the bill on the same day. The bill aims to clarify the jurisdiction of the SEC and CFTC over cryptocurrencies and categorize those that do not qualify as securities. There were hopes that discussions would be conducted by the end of 2025, but this did not materialize. Over the past year, lawmakers have been grappling with how to regulate decentralized finance and President Trump's interests in cryptocurrencies.
