U.S. MSCI Delays Exclusion Proposal for Cryptocurrency-Holding Companies, Strategy Corp to Remain

MSCI (Morgan Stanley Capital International), a global provider of equity indices, announced on the 6th that it will not proceed with the proposal to exclude companies holding over 50% of their total assets in cryptocurrencies from its indices during the February review. Instead, it plans to initiate broader discussions regarding the treatment of non-operating companies in general. Feedback from institutional investors has confirmed concerns that some cryptocurrency-holding companies exhibit characteristics similar to investment funds. MSCI pointed out that companies holding assets in cryptocurrencies for investment purposes rather than business operations could be considered part of a group of investment companies.
