Bakkt Agrees to Acquire Stablecoin Payment Infrastructure Firm DTR

U.S.-listed blockchain infrastructure company Bakkt announced on January 12 that it has agreed to acquire Distributed Technologies Research (DTR), a provider of stablecoin payment infrastructure.

Bakkt will issue approximately 9,128,682 Class A common shares to DTR shareholders. The company explained that this share consideration appropriately reflects the strategic value of DTR's technology and assets. The acquisition is expected to accelerate the market introduction of stablecoin payments, reduce reliance on third parties, and support future revenue generation in payments and banking services.
