West Virginia Proposes Bill to Include Bitcoin in State Reserves

A Measure Against Inflation

On January 15, West Virginia State Senator Chris Rose introduced Senate Bill 143, the 'Inflation Protection Act,' to the state legislature, enabling the state treasury to allocate a portion of state funds to Bitcoin (BTC) and gold.

The bill permits investments in digital assets with a market cap exceeding $750 billion from the previous year, with Bitcoin currently being the only asset meeting this criterion. It allows for investments of up to 10% of state funds and is currently assigned to the Banking & Insurance Committee.

According to the bill, the digital assets acquired by the state treasury must be managed by qualified custodians, listed investment trusts (ETFs), or through secure storage solutions...
