South Korea Approves Legal Framework for Tokenized Securities, Set for 2027 Implementation

One-Year Preparation Period Before Implementation

On the 15th, the South Korean National Assembly passed amendments to the Capital Market Act and the Electronic Securities Act in a plenary session, officially establishing a legal framework for the issuance and trading of tokenized securities. With this legislative change, qualified issuers will be able to issue and distribute tokenized securities using blockchain technology, and transactions can be conducted through intermediaries such as securities firms. After being approved by the State Council and proclaimed by the President, the law will undergo a one-year preparation period before being implemented in January 2027.
