Japan's Financial Services Agency to Establish a New 'Crypto Assets & Stablecoins Division' as Part of its Asset Management Nation Initiative

On January 26, 2026, Japan's Financial Services Agency (FSA) announced in its newsletter the creation of a new 'Crypto Assets & Stablecoins Division'. This move comes as part of a restructuring of the General Policy Bureau, consolidating cryptocurrency-related operations into a dedicated division.

As part of this organizational overhaul, the General Policy Bureau will be restructured into the 'Asset Management & Insurance Supervision Bureau', and the Supervision Bureau will be renamed the 'Banking & Securities Supervision Bureau'. The goal is to realize Japan as an asset management nation and to respond to the rapid expansion of financial services utilizing digital technology.
