SEC Chairman Withdraws Timeline for Introduction of Cryptocurrency Innovation Exemption Measures

January Introduction Withdrawn, 'Careful Consideration' Needed

On the 29th, SEC Chairman Paul Atkins, at a joint event held at the headquarters of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) in Washington, effectively withdrew the previously suggested January implementation of 'Innovation Exemption Measures' for cryptocurrency companies. 'It is still under consideration and needs to be approached carefully,' he stated, avoiding any commitment to a specific timeline.

Last December, Mr. Atkins had indicated that the measures could be announced in about a month, but has now shifted to a more cautious stance, stating he wants to 'see the direction of Congress.' He also mentioned that 'there are many variables in the situation,' and did not specify a concrete timeline for implementation.
