U.S. SEC Sees a 60% Decrease in Enforcement Actions Related to Cryptocurrency as Conflicts of Interest with President Trump Are Highlighted by Lawmakers

Under Fire from Congress

Paul Atkins, Chairman of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), attended a hearing of the House Financial Services Committee on the 12th, where he faced intense scrutiny from Democratic lawmakers over the withdrawal of legal actions against Justin Sun and Binance, as well as potential conflicts of interest between President Trump and the cryptocurrency industry, as reported by multiple media outlets. According to data from Cornerstone Research, the number of enforcement actions by the SEC in 2025 decreased by 30% compared to the previous year, with a significant 60% drop in cases related to cryptocurrencies. In May 2025, the SEC withdrew its lawsuit against Binance, and also dropped its case against Tron founder Mr. Sun in February of the same year.
