Seoul Police Department Reports External Leak of 22 Seized Bitcoins

BTC Extracted

On February 13th, it was reported that 22 bitcoins (BTC), which were voluntarily submitted and stored by the Seoul Gangnam Police Station during an investigation, have been externally leaked. The current market value of the leaked BTC amounts to approximately 230 million yen. The bitcoins were taken into custody by the police in November 2021 during an investigation, and although the USB-type cold wallet, a physical storage device, was not stolen, the bitcoins inside it were extracted. Since the investigation of the incident had been suspended, the leak had not been confirmed until now. The Gyeonggi Northern Police Agency is now conducting a thorough internal investigation to understand the specifics of the leak and whether there was any internal involvement.
