Hong Kong Explicitly Includes Cryptocurrencies as Eligible Assets for Family Office Tax Benefits

Legislative Amendments Expected in Early 2026

In a move to expand the scope of assets eligible for tax incentives aimed at family offices and funds, the Hong Kong government announced on the 25th that the 2026-27 fiscal year budget will explicitly include cryptocurrencies, precious metals, and commodities. The Financial Secretary, Paul Chan, revealed this during a budget speech at the Legislative Council. Traditionally, as Hong Kong does not levy a capital gains tax, profits from the sale of cryptocurrencies by individual investors are generally not taxed.
