Cryptocurrency Losses in February Drop by 80%, as Hackers Shift Focus from Code to Humans

Increase in Attacks Exploiting Human Vulnerabilities

The monthly report released by blockchain security company Nominis on the 9th indicates a significant decrease in cryptocurrency-related security breaches in February 2026. While the total damage amounted to approximately $49.3 million, a sharp decline from the previous month, it has become evident that individual users are increasingly targeted, marking a significant shift in attack strategies. The report highlights that hackers are moving away from exploiting technical vulnerabilities in smart contracts to more human-centered approaches, such as phishing and address poisoning.
