Four Japanese Ministries Request Measures to Prevent Criminal Misuse of Cryptocurrency in Real Estate Transactions

On April 28, the Financial Services Agency, in conjunction with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, National Police Agency, and Ministry of Finance, issued a joint statement to real estate and cryptocurrency-related industry groups. The document requests measures to ensure the integrity of real estate transactions using digital assets (cryptocurrencies), considering the risk of their misuse for money laundering and other illegal activities. The request targets organizations such as the All Japan Real Estate Association and the National Association of Real Estate Transaction Guarantors, among others.
