U.S. House Ways and Means Committee Holds Cryptocurrency Taxation Hearing, Deliberates Six Tax Bills

The U.S. House Ways and Means Committee, responsible for tax legislation, convened a legislative hearing on cryptocurrency taxation on the 9th.

In conjunction with the hearing, the committee released six draft bills. These address the timing of tax obligations on mining and staking rewards, the establishment of a tax-exemption threshold for small-scale cryptocurrency transactions, the application of wash sale rules to cryptocurrencies, their application to charitable donations, a voluntary disclosure program, and the application of existing tax evasion prevention regulations.
